How Do I Grow As A Christ follower?
Like any important relationship, our relationship with Jesus involves time and effort on our part. It’s important in our faith as Christ followers to work towards maturity. When a person accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior (born again) as a child of God, he is spiritually immature no matter what age a person is. As time passes, he should develop qualities or abilities which the Bible says characterizes maturity. Here are a few suggestions to help you on the path to maturity.
- Get baptized. This is an act of obedience for believers. To learn more about what baptism is click here.
- Join our “Growing in the Journey” class to assist you in cultivating spiritual disciplines in your life. (prayer, giving, reading, etc.) You don’t have to wait for the next class to begin the maturing process. You can also:
- Spend time each day with God in prayer and reading the Bible. Start with the Gospels in the book of John or one of the other reading plans we offer. If you don't have a Bible, we'll get one for you! If you’re not sure how to pray? Here's a suggested acronym for your prayer time: A.C.T.S.
A - Adoration - praise God.
C - Confession - admit it when you sin again. You won’t be perfect.
T - Thanksgiving - be sure to thank Him often for His many blessings to you.
S – Supplication - ask God for what you need.
Talk to God like you would your best friend. It may seem a bit strange a first but remember there was a time that you didn’t even know Him. Now that you do, talk to Him.
Get involved in community. Attend weekend worship, join a small group and start serving. God created us for relationships. We need them in order to become all He's created us to be.
